Also known as talk therapy, or counseling, psychotherapy helps people with mental and emotional conflict and pain in their lives. Therapists help people gain perspective, increase awareness of internal and external resources, and assist in championing healthy life choices and behaviors for greater mental health and overall well being. Psychotherapy is a beneficial form of treatment for when dealing with trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship issues, etc.
Somatic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach which recognizes that people’s physical well being impacts their mental health, and that a person’s mental health also impacts their physical well being. Incorporating a holistic awareness of one’s body, mind & spirit in therapy is found to be effective in reducing or alleviating a wide variety of mental health concerns from anxiety & depression, to grief & loss, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, and PTSD.
In a somatic psychotherapy session you can expect traditional talk therapy along with psycho-educational experiences that invite greater body awareness and connection. There is an underlying conviction in somatic psychology that “the body knows” and “the body never lies”. In sessions you will have the opportunity to get to know your body/mind connection better, in a totally nonjudgemental, supportive and compassionate environment. This process naturally cultivates greater safety & empowerment, which in turn impacts your healing process.
Also known as dance therapy or DMT, dance/movement therapy uses movement to help people improve mental, emotional, physical health, integration and healing. DMT is beneficial for stress reduction, emotional regulation, and overall well being, and is used in clinical settings to support therapeutic treatment. DMT promotes self awareness, self esteem, empowerment, and self expression, all inherently important aspects within the therapeutic process. DMT is used within diverse clinical settings with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
DMT can look many different ways, but in sessions at Moving Truth Psychotherapy it is always a guided experience with a structure, offered as an invitation, not required form of treatment. Music may be used, but is not necessary, and the process of movement is most often not choreographed, but has an organic, free form and exploratory quality. DMT, unlike dance in social settings and in classes is not about achievement, nor is it about performing for show. Movement in sessions can be used to communicate with your therapist, connect with your own body and mind, feel yourself, express yourself, see yourself and be seen in a nonjudgemental environment.
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle form of bodywork which relieves tension patterns in the central nervous system. CST is deeply relaxing, supporting the reduction or elimination of pain, and boosting overall health and immunity throughout the body and mind.
For the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) session, people stay fully clothed and lie down on a massage table. A light, holding touch is used to sense the body systems, membranes and fluids, especially in and around the central nervous system. CST contributes to the self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing that the body is always working towards. There are different styles of craniosacral therapy, some being more manipulative and mechanical, while others work with the more subtle energetics of the body’s systems. Biodynamic is the most holistic and least invasive form of craniosacral therapy.
